Can you see the sectors the new immigrants are working in? Presumably a lot is care homes and private contractors to the NHS (outsourced public sector workers). Typical low paid jobs. Question is, could we do without them?
Very good analysis as usual Neil. Thanks for sharing.
Whilst confirming my own opinion it continues to leave me exasperated, as something so clear and obvious is largely ignored by your colleagues and our media. I cannot understand why they continue to promote immigration policies which leave the existing population worse-off, with worse access to services, worse life-chances for their children, and the highest levels of taxation to pay for it all.
I doubt they are all daft, so I am left feeling that there is some other more cynical motive to this. If you could explain who benefits from all of this that would be very helpful.
Agreed. It would be really helpful to know which areas of the economy the same people have entered. Then it would be clear who benefits, and who is pulling the strings of our politicians to introduce policies such as these that are detrimental to the rest of us over the long term.
Thank you for the analysis. It pretty much confirms that the system introduced by Boris Johnson and which looks set to continue under Kier Starmer is going to make this country poorer per capita. It did so by the end of the Conservatives in power and that decline looks set to continue. To be honest none of this is rocket science, it’s basic economics. If you flood a market with a good(in this case labour), then absent a very significant increase in demand, you’ll end up with a new equilibrium with higher overall employment numbers but a falling real terms wage. Of course, you’ll have a higher GDP, but, you’ll have less money per capita to invest in resources. And so the (un)managed decline of the country will continue. The country needs some realistic hope, but right this minute, with the current political settlement, that is never going to happen.
Please see if you can persuade your colleagues to raise their gaze beyond SW1 and the wealthy, and to look honestly at the country beyond. It’s falling apart and we need a democratic path out.

I believe the Daily Mail has written an article based on your work

I think the adage “follow the money” works here. Those who benefit from this model are those who benefit from the sale of the produce of the labour.
